Last Saturday during the ice storm my neighbor M,her boyfriend J and her kids C (6) and B (8) came to our door, all excited about certain ice formations on their forgotten Christmas tree, which is residing on their deck since the day after Christmas. We invited them in and since hubby here was cooking breakfast we invited them for that, too. Now you have to understand that they are simple folk.In fact, white trash with redneck traces (no harm done, this is by their own acknowledgment) and we are not much better then them but have a bit more....lets say "style" when it comes to food and utensils. So when dished up the omelet hubby was making for all of us,he also put a salt and pepper shaker on the table. Not just some ORDINARY salt and pepper shaker, but those where you have too spin the top and freshly grind the salt and pepper.Salt and pepper MILL that is.
I guess they had never seen such thing because J begun to shake and shake and (of course) nothing came out.The expression on his as well as Ms face was PRICELESS.Additional investigations of both mills still did not result in the disposal of salt and pepper onto the omelet.Baffled faces looked upon hubby and me and the expression on their faces after we showed them how to do it,was even MORE priceless.
The relief was noticeable and the laugh was good for another hour or so.The words "I have never seen such a thing" still make me laugh!
What I don't understand is how M can pick a beer over an omelet (M hates all other foods but HAM and OLIVES) for breakfast at 9AM.And I am German, dude!
Like I said....white trash,redneck...The way M likes to describe herself is:
"blonde, white trash, polish and redneck".....gotta give her this one:
it works with the guys cuz one of my friend said, after hearing her describe herself over the phone:"boy I am in love now!"
I love my neighbors! They are GOOD folk and fun to hang out with.
Boy,I LOVE living here!
Man I would have taken the beer and the Omelet. And for dessert, another beer.

Posted by: LW at February 3, 2005 10:33 AMOh yea, try it.
being you are from Germany you should know the name (Paulaner) right? Try the (Hefe Weizen) with white sausages and eggs. I am making myself hungury now.......
Posted by: Phreelife at February 3, 2005 03:04 PMOh I know Hefe Weizen.Thats my favorite beer. But Paulaner is crap, especially the way its brewed for the US.There are better ones.Gotta go dive into Harrys for that.:-)
In Germany we also used to do Fruehshoppen....but boy...I am way past an age where I can handle that!LOL
