For a while now we have another dog living with us.He lives on our drive-way and under our car port.He is the sweetest thing and one of the most amazing creatures I have ever seen in a dog.He belongs to no one and everyone in this neighborhood.Him,my dogs and two other neighborhood doggies are inseparable, always together. The play together, share their food and are ALWAYS where all the kids are. Some idiot claimed hes been bitten by him, which is bullshit;Nine-Eye has a habit of "smiling" and clicking his teeth when he is happy or wants to play.He will give love bites, they don't hurt. They called the dog catcher, they can't get him.He won't let anyone touch or grab him.I hide the dog in my back yard, every time the dog catcher comes.
I love this dog.I do not want him taken away.He is there, doesn't bother anyone, protects us all and I will not let them take him. After month of feeding him we finally got him to were we can give him a pet here and there. He follows me everywhere I go.He gets excited every time we come outside, when we come home, just when he sees us through a window.
Someone, some bastard who once owned this dog, beat the living hell out of this poor dog.I have never seen a dog that is SO skittish and afraid to trust someone.Still,he does not even show aggression! All other dogs are boss over him.He is huge,he could take them,he won't,steps aside for any kind of trouble.Even the squirrels know him, they don't care at all he is there.
SHOULD I EVER get a hold on the bastard son of a bitch that did this to this dog,I WILL beat the living crap out of him/her.
SHOULD the county EVER get a hold on Nine-Eye,I WILL get him back no matter WHAT it'll take.Over my DEAD body will they kill this dog.
He is one of lives little pleasures, just there,no need to do anything. He makes me happy and he makes me feel safe.
He is the sweetest thing. He's sort of the neighborhood mascot now. :)
Posted by: Jim at November 3, 2004 10:15 PMThat dog is 1/2 "Bernese mtn. dog or swiss Mtn dog"(mixed)....that is why he is skittish. I know, I own one. The breed is really loyal to ONE person(usually). They are big dogs and are VERY affectionate. I would guess that the prior owner did not beat him, it's the nature of the breed to be nervous. I would get a reg. for this guy to defend him from the pound-catcher. Also he looks young (from the picture), they can get much heavier. Email me if you want - and I really think he is a mixed bernese.

Posted by: mac at November 5, 2004 08:58 AMHi Mac.Thanks for you comment. But the dog HAS been abused severely, that much we do know.He is loyal to everyone who loves him and his also at least 5 to 6 years old.He shows all kinds of symtoms of abuse.A wrong move causes him to get scared and hide for a while, before he comes back.He runs when he sees a stick and he also is very submissive, showing all kinds of "low life" signs. It looks alot like he never got socialized. We can't register him because we can't catch him to get him to the vet and have him have shots. Here in our county that is required. The only reason the dog catcher didn't get him yet is simply because they can't get to him and noone here will let them set a trap.
I guess we'll just have to live along side of him an dsee if we can get to him in the long run.Get him some shots,a bath and a tag on his neck.
ANY ADVISE ON HOW TO DO THIS IS WELCOME!!!
We have a neighborhood dog like that too. Her name is Amber. Right as we speak she is sitting in my office sleeping away.
Cool!Glad there are others with big hearts for the little fellows.:-)
Nine-Eye won't come in the house. He loves to be outside, feels trapped in anything that has walls or a fence.I guess thats for the goods, because he guards the property pretty good.:-)
Plus.....right now,god only knows what "buddies" he has accumulated in his fur.LOL
